REJUVENATION
“As we embrace our passions and delve into the mystery of life, we unite with the majestic complexity of nature; and if we follow the signs, this can help us understand who we really are.”- Sebastian Pole.
The Science of Rejuvenation- Rasayana
The science of Rejuvenation, Rasayana is very ancient. It is one of the eight branches of Ayurveda. In fact, ever since Ayurveda came into being over 5,000 years ago, it has been credited with improving our body’s resistance to illnesses and also slowing down the ageing process. Therefore, the herbs, plants and fruits referred to as the ‘Rasayanas’ that are used for Ayurvedic therapies and treatments, contains antioxidants that can help protect the body against the ravages of time, improve overall immunity and thus reduce the ageing process. Rasayanas also provides nourishment to the growth and functioning of all our seven dhatus or tissues.
Ojas- The understated quintessence of life
When we talk about rejuvenation, Ojas plays a very important role. This is considered to be the eighth tissue, which is the very quintessence of all body tissues or the main energy reserve in the body. This is a resultant of our nutritional intake, food and digestive capabilities. The energy, vigor and vitality we feel comes from this. In fact, depending upon the quality and amount of Ojas in our bodies, our immunity and strength is determined. If ever this is low in our bodies, we experience a low feeling and lesser immunity and make us more susceptible. So when rejuvenation therapies are initiated, it is also aimed at improving the Ojas in the human body.
There are a lot of fables and stories that talk about the awareness and importance of rejuvenation through times immemorial. The ultimate quest for rejuvenation dates back in time. One myth believed that it was a magical potion or a supernatural power that restored youth and vitality. Another legend details that an ancient Chinese king, sent out young women and men in ships to seek a pearl that would help rejuvenate him and attain eternal youth. So in essence, the practice is focused more on the reversing aging processes. If aging can be delayed and repaired, then the resultant factor is of course, rejuvenation.
Ayurveda rejuvenation aims to match our mind, body and soul. This is adapted with the understanding and knowledge of the nature and our inner self. Through diet, exercise, therapy, massages and positive practices we can awaken our senses to respond optimistically.
Rejuvenation therapy is also referred to as the 'Rasayana Chikilsa'. Its many benefits include feeling lighter and younger, preserves health and thus ensures longevity of life, enhances our mental capacities, improves our overall persona, benefits the skin, our looks and memory and improves our immunity and we are able to resist sicknesses.
In essence, to feel relaxed, rejuvenated and revitalized is the same. Most rejuvenation therapies are aimed at revitalizing the mind, body and spirit which in turn leads to achieve relaxation. In addition to apparent health benefits, the overall sense of wellbeing is something that we experience and achieve.
